It’s Discover Wisconsin’s Day on the Central Mall and we’re hosting these events –

• Hot stuff! Grilling with Beer grill-off (noon-3pm). Cheer on the 8 superlative grillmeisters working their magic with beef and beer.
• At 4pm: Brat Eating Contest. Love brats? Can’t get enough? Head to the Central Mall to participate in some serious eating. Last year’s champ downed 17.
• Cool Stuff! At 5pm: Sprecher Root Beer Float eating contest. Must be 16 or younger. Watch as youngsters do their best to down a Sprecher Root Beer Float faster than the competition.

It’s been a marathon but we’re ready for the 2012 Wisconsin State Fair.  Here’s an idea of Sprecher-related events at Sprecher Landing (near SpinCity), Root Beer Everywhere (near Apollo’s) and elsewhere.

Friday, August 3:  Join us at the Central Mall for our 4th Grilling with Beer Contest. Cheer on your favorite grillmeister as they vie for fame and prizes noon-3pm. Then stay tuned for something you might want enter: the Brat eating contest. And afterwards: the Root Beer Float drinking contest (ages 16 and under).

Starting Thursday, August 2nd at Sprecher Landing (near  SpinCity) you’ll find 11 award-winning Sprecher Beers (on tap and in bottles); draft root beer; Sprecher beer pretzels on a stick, Special Amber sorbet, 3 Sprecher beer sorbet lollipops (on a stick, of course); root beer cookies on a stick and more, including FREE live entertainment and appearances by the Milwaukee Wave.  Here’s the schedule:

3:00pm: Root Beer Float Drinking Contest! What a great way to celebrate the Official Root Beer of the Wisconsin State Fair. Two age groups: 6-11, and 12+. Contestants will be selected from the audience. Be there or you’ll miss your opportunity for a memorable experience.

4:00pm: Brat Eating Contest — other than great beer, nothing says Wisconsin like a brat eating contest.  12 contestants will be selected from the audience for this speed eating finale to a fun-filled day.

Throughout the Day: Kids games, recipe giveaways, food samplings, Discover Wisconsin destination information, guessing games, opportunities to win tickets to Sprecher’s 25th anniversary bash, and more!

For the 1st time ever, Sprecher is the Official Root Beer of the Wisconsin State Fair! Woo-Hoo!  Until we have a map available, these signs will lead you to The Root Beer That Made Wisconsin Famous.

It’s actually kind of surprising that Sprecher Root Beer was not part of the State Fair until last year when you could get Sprecher Root Beer Floats in the Wisconsin Products Pavilion.  That’s history.  Sprecher Root Beer will be available throughout the fairgrounds every single day of the fair.   In the WI Products Pavilion, you can also get Ravin’ Red and Cherry Cola floats, and Cream Soda. Mugs up for that!

Like the soda but really want to know more about where to find Sprecher Beer?  A wide variety of Sprecher beers will be available throughout the grounds; we’re putting together a Sprecher locator map as I type.  In the meantime, you can find Abbey Triple, IPA2, Witty (Chameleon) at Benno’s, which will also have our Belgian Dubbel on Sprecher Day Monday, August 9th (more about that in the next post).

Fun! Fun! Fun at the Fair yesterday.  It was officially Sprecher Day.  So what happened?  Twenty-five people grilled their best recipe; amid stiff competition, the top three really deserved their awards.  And the grand prize winner – a filet with duxelle sauce – well, it is a winner.  Stay tuned, we’ll have the recipes on the website very soon.

Kids loved the games, the partner business coupons on our wall of coupons disappeared quickly (don’t worry; they’ll reappear on our website), many people had their photo taken with Rooty or the Sprecher Race Car, and the weather was great so the mood was right for perhaps the most popular event on the Central Mall — the Sheboygan brat eating contest.   Crowds cheered as 15 people tried to outdo each other.  Our winner ate a total of 8 brats, or 2lbs worth!  Only in Wisconsin?  I wonder.  This guy could go on to become a national champion.
