Sprecher Brewings & Doings

27th February 2009

Well, the Marquette- UConn game was one of the best all year.  A heartbreaker for Marquette fans.  Dominic James certainly showed he has the heart of a champion.  Poor guy — a broken metatarsil early in the game and late in his college career.  Devasting though the injury was, Marquette rallied and so did James.  He came out on crutches and cheered his team on with such enthusiasm you could tell that even though he wasn’t in the game, his heart was.   And so were the fans, all 19,900+.

Stay tuned!  This team has more great basketball in store.  Go Marquette!

On another subject: Tonight is Sprecher’s official Irish Stout release party, complete with a firkin and the band Heat.

If you love basketball, especially college basketball, Milwaukee is the place to be tonight!  In less than 30 minutes, the Marquette Golden Eagles (8) meet the UConn Huskies (2) on the Al McGuire Court in the Bradley Center.  A lot is riding on this game — beyond bets — top position in the Big East, post-season seeding, etc.  The crowd will be WILD!  Marquette students started lining up at 3pm CST yesterday for seats at tonight’s game.  Throughout the 20-40F weather they remained waiting on cold sidewalks for the gates to open so they could cheer on their team.  And it will be a very loud Bradley Center this evening.

If you don’t have your seat now and don’t have a wad of cash to get one (as of yesterday, the least expensive seat with a view was selling for about $300), then find a good bar and join in the fun.   As always, in Milwaukee you can pick almost any watering hole and have a great time when there’s a sporting event.  Ahhh, camaraderie.   A word of warning: Milwaukeeans seriously love their teams, so if the Golden Eagles don’t win, there will probably be a big sense of depression in town for the next couple of days, kind of like the day after feeling when the Packers lose.

I emailed my friend Gary who owns Standings, a fun beer and sports bar in NYC’s East Village, to put in my long distance cheer for Marquette.  Most important since he’s a UConn alum and a huge Huskies fan.  If you’re looking for a locale to watch the game in NYC, check out Standings or Kettle ‘o Fish.  Maybe Mad River Grill as well.  That’s a dedicated Badger bar but for a contest this big I bet they’ll have the game on.

GO MARQUETTE!

If you are interested, there is a Sprecher Flickr page where we post quite a few of our photos. Many, if not most, of the photos may be less than stellar quality, but I assume you’ll forgive us since making beer and soda is our forté, not spectacular photography.

If you are looking for some higher-res photos of Sprecher products than you get on our website, or just any photos that don’t make it onto the main site, then our Flickr page is the place to look.

As always, enjoy, and cheers!

Sprecher Brewings and Doings

24th February 2009

Hi Everyone,

Last night Randy and I had a Sprecher beer tasting at a great little beer bar in San Luis Obispo, California,  — Spikes Pub, 570 Higuera St.  For a Monday night there was a pretty big crowd of beer lovers.  Spikes had Abbey Triple, IPA2, Black Bavarian and our new EPA on tap.  Plus, Randy being Randy, he had many bottles of other goodies to share.  While the central coast has many good beers available, most had never tried Sprecher so they really appreciated the taste revelation.  Needless to say, a good time was had by all.  Favorite beers on tap (in order) = Abbey Triple, Black Bavarian, IPA2 and EPA.  Generation Porter was a crowd pleaser (too bad we only made 300 cases this year), as were the Bourbon Barrel aged Scotch Ale and Imperial Stout.  For those who live in the central coast, you can find Sprecher sodas at Bev Mo in SLO.  As for our beers, try Spikes, Creekside Brew Pub and Club Car.

At the brewery in Glendale: this Friday, February 27th, is the official Sprecher Irish Stout release party!  Food, music, fun, blarney, Irish Stout and a firkin! On St. Paddy’s Day proper, we’re offering tours and Irish fun starting at 3pm.  Call 414.964.2739 for more information and reservations.  Why Milwaukee hasn’t made St. Paddy’s Day an official holiday, I’m not sure; Milwaukeeans certainly party as if it were!

Kid Stuff: You can now have your child’s birthday party at Sprecher! No kidding!  Michelle Brzek will help you plan the event from start to finish so you are assured of having the best birthday party ever.  Bring in the clowns, the games, the cake and ice cream; we’ve got the soda!  And we’ve got a wonderful staff who will take care of set-up and clean-up so you don’t have to worry about anything but your child’s happiness on this special day.  Party favors?  You need them, we’ve got them: personalized bottles of Sprecher soda.  Bring in your favorite photograph of your birthday child and we’ll put it on a bottles of Sprecher Root Beer, Orange Dream, Cream Soda, whichever soda you like.  Contact the Sprecher Gift Shop, 414.964.2739.

The Easter Bunny is coming to Sprecher!  Indeed, the Easter Bunny has taken time out of its busy schedule to visit Sprecher on three Sundays: March 22, March 29 and April 5.  Take a tour, visit with the big bunny and get your souvenir photo!  Create memorable fun regardless of your age (= not for kids only).  You can also have your photograph placed on a bottles of Sprecher Root Beer or Cherry Cola.  Priceless, but for you, only $2.00/bottle, minimum order of 12 bottles.  Contact the Sprecher Gift Shop, 414.964.2739.

Sprecher Brewings and Doings

08th February 2009

Hey Everyone,

Highly skilled chef, beer connoiseur and author of several cookbooks and articles, Lucy Saunders has written a delightful article in today’s edition of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel (online = www.jsonline.com) featuring chocolate and beer.   In that article she writes of Sprecher Generation Porter:

Now, craft brewers splurge on the finest chocolate; Sprecher Brewery’s special limited-release (sold out in 2007) Generation Porter was brewed with Dutch cocoa and raspberries.

Everything is true EXCEPT Generation Porter is currently available!  In fact, it’s our Valentine’s Day selection this year.  We brewed a small – 300 case – batch which we released in December.  Yummy!  At our retail store (701 W. Glendale Ave, Glendale, WI.  414.964.2739) you can purchase GP in liter bottles with special Valentine’s Day labels, and in our standard pint bottles.  You can also find GP at select stores in Wisconsin.

Cheers,

Anne
